When will my letter arrive to its destination?

I put my mail in the outgoing mail slot at night on Wednesday. I know the postman will pick it up tomorrow Thursday morning (or around noon?). When will my friend receive my letter? I live in Maryland and they live in Virginia so we're not that far apart. Will they receive it sometime Thursday or Friday?
